Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas

In Pennsylvania, there are four basic levels of courts:

  1. minor courts, which include the Magisterial District Courts (e.g., Pottstown District Court), Philadelphia Municipal Court, and special courts;

  2. Courts of Common Pleas, which are the trial courts of Pennsylvania;

  3. intermediate appellate courts; and

  4. the Supreme Court.

Each court represents a certain jurisdiction or region. The Courts of Common Pleas represent 60 judicial districts, making it nearly one Court of Common Plea for each county (there are 67 counties in Pennsylvania). These courts oversee both civil and criminal matters in addition to having family, juvenile, and orphan divisions.

For representation in any one of these types of cases, whether it is a criminal matter or a divorce, you want an attorney who knows the court system as much as he knows the rules of the court and the laws related to your legal matter.
