Making the Most of Visitation in Montgomery County
Many of us have fond memories of summer break, from swimming and playing to hanging out with friends and taking fun trips with family. But, if you’re splitting custody with a co-parent, you may feel a lot of pressure to make fun summer memories for your children. Luckily, there are many fun things to do with your kids here in Montgomery County; you don’t have to head to Philadelphia to have fun.
Valley Forge National Historic Park
We live in one of the most historic areas of the U.S., so why not share that with your children? Valley Forge was the encampment site for the Continental Army during the winter of 1777 to 1778 amid the American Revolution. Explore the museum, tour the encampment, and hear the inspiring story of how the Continental Army overcame adversity to help create our young country. Kids can also participate in the National Park Service’s Junior Ranger program.
King of Prussia Mall
King of Prussia Mall is one of the most famous malls in the country. With more than 450 stores and two play areas for small children, there’s plenty to keep your kids moving. There are also dozens of family-friendly dining options.
The Merrymead Farm, located in Worcester Township, is a working dairy farm that’s been in the same family for more than a century. You can browse and purchase locally produced dairy products, produce, honey, baked goods, and plants while the kids visit the farm animals. The farm’s Fall Harvest Days are a must-see, with hay rides, a corn maze, rides, inflatables, pumpkin painting, and more.
The historic carousel in Pottstown is the second oldest wooden Philadelphia Toboggan Company carousel in operation in the U.S. Recently renovated, volunteer artists spent over 250 hours sanding, painting, and refinishing each custom-carved figure on the carousel. There are also arcade games and a gift shop to browse while you’re there.
If you’re up for a longer trip, head to Hershey Park for a day filled with fun rides and chocolate. Hershey Park even has an enclosed water park and water slides galore to beat the heat.
